William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet remains one of the most celebrated love stories ever told. For over four centuries, the tale of the two lovers has transcended time and place, becoming the archetype of perfect love—pure and absolute, yet opposed by the society around them.
Balletto del Sud, widely recognized for the strong visual impact of its productions, presents its distinctive interpretation of Romeo and Juliet, set to Sergei Prokofiev's magnificent score.
Choreographer Fredy Franzutti sets the story within the passionate and turbulent atmosphere of late medieval Italy, creating a compelling frame for Shakespeare's tragic narrative and the fate of the ill-fated lovers.
The production features spectacular sets inspired by the masterpieces of Giotto, Piero della Francesca, and Cimabue. Created by renowned Italian scenic workshops, these evocative designs transport audiences into a dreamlike world suspended between history and imagination.
The costumes faithfully recreate the forms and aesthetics of medieval Italy, contributing to the production's distinctive visual identity.
Since its premiere, the ballet has enjoyed both critical acclaim and enthusiastic audience response. It was broadcast nationally by RAI Due on Christmas Eve 2010 and has subsequently been aired several times by RAI Uninettuno. Over the years, the production has toured extensively, consistently receiving warm responses from audiences and presenters alike.
