Studied saxophone and clarinet at the Havana Conservatory, Paquito D'Rivera was a featured soloist with the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra.

Based in the US today, he has won a combined 11 Grammy ® and Latin Grammy Awards (5 Grammy and 9 Latin Grammys) besides many other awards and honours including National Medal of the Arts, Living Jazz Legend Award from the Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C. and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Carnegie Hall for his contributions to Latin music in 1991. 

Performed in leading venues throughout the world, he also played with various orchestras including London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, Bronx Arts Ensemble, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, Costa Rica National Symphony, American Youth Philharmonic, and Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra among many others.

D'Rivera transcends musical genres as he is the only artist to ever have won Grammy Awards in both Classical and Latin Jazz categories.
